Demonstration of Humminbird 798ci si interfering with two marine VHF radios. The squelch is turned to max on the fixed-mount radio (bottom), and is almost at max for the handheld radio (on steering wheel). Update 4/9/2010: I sent my 798SI back to Humminbird, and they did a custom circuit modification that fixed the problem. Before that, I had interference on two different marine radios, even when they were 8 feet away from the 798. I borrowed an RF spectrum analyzer, and captured the interference that the 798 was generating in the VHF band. After the humminbird fix, the energy in the VHF band was gone, and my interference problem was completely fixed (night and day difference). Search Picasa Web albums for: “Humminbird 798ci si RF interference video/audio” to see the RF spectrum analyzer screen shots. I really don’t know why others aren’t having the same experience. I bought mine in ~June 2009.
